Daniels Design & Remodeling has been Northern Virginia’s premier boutique home remodeling contractor since our founding in 1997. We are an architectural home remodeling firm that offers an array of experience and knowledge for home remodeling projects of all kinds. We’ve carved out a niche for ourselves by providing our clients with unique, beautiful redesign projects inspired by their creativity and our expertise. We are passionate about collaborating with our clients because, after all, they are the ones who will be living in the remodeled home.

We employ a simple, three-step process here at our home remodeling company. We begin with a feasibility study, then you can choose your design, after which we will build your project. Below is a breakdown of each step in more detail:

  • Feasibility study – You will meet our team, we’ll measure the project, and then create up to three unique design concepts for you to choose from.
  • Choose your design – Select from up to three unique concepts, decide on the right one for you, and then we adjust and tailor the design to your wishes.
  • Build your project – The third step includes a pre-construction meeting, construction schedule, and then we build the project, on time and within our predetermined budget!

Improving Your Home’s Value

While it is true what we said above — that you above all others should be thrilled with how your redesigned home looks and feels — but at the same time, there is every reason in the world to make sure the home renovations you complete add tangible value to your home. For the rest of today’s blog, we’ll take the opportunity to highlight a few of the most proven ways you can increase the valuation of your house. Even if you aren’t planning on moving any time soon, or ever, no one knows what the future might hold. That’s why we always recommend home redesign projects that tick every box in terms of aesthetics, function, and value.

Efficient

In places that experience extreme temperatures, energy conservation often has a big impact on a home’s value. That’s why it’s recommended to include energy conservation features when you are planning your exterior, kitchen, bathroom, or living space redesign. LED lighting, efficient appliances, double-paned windows, and energy-efficient attic insulation are all examples of energy-saving measures you can include in your redesign. Doing so will also make your home more attractive to environmentally-conscientious home buyers.

If you’d like to take the energy-efficiency levels up a notch or two, we’d recommend exploring the possibility of installing solar panels on your roof. According to the National Association of Realtors, 39 percent of surveyed agents reported that solar panels increased the perceived value of a given property. Now, we’d advise you that solar panel installation is a slow burning investment; it’s not going to give you a quick bump in resale value in all likelihood. Nevertheless, it will shave dollars off of your energy bill each month, whether you end up selling your home or not!

Low-Maintenance

One of the biggest fears homebuyers have is that they will be shackled by endless home maintenance projects. That’s why it’s worth your while to consider replacing primary components of the home, especially if they are getting up there in terms of service life. Maybe it’s the furnace, roof, water heater, or HVAC system. While there is an upfront cost to replacing these components, if you do it in the right way you’ll be able to get a higher price in the end. Be sure to ask us about knocking these types of projects out while your home is being remodeled by Daniels Design & Remodeling!

Beautiful

It’s all about curb appeal, folks. And, forgive us for asking such an obvious question, but what are you looking at when you are on the curb? You see the home’s exterior, of course! That’s why we always recommend starting with the home’s external appearance when creating a comprehensive home redesign that has the purpose of increasing the home’s value. It makes sense, too — how your home looks from the street matters a good deal because it is the first impression potential homebuyers will have. From a psychological perspective, first impressions are crucial.

In most cases, you don’t have to replace the roof, siding, and/or windows to make your home look beautiful. On the contrary, there are plenty of more cost-effective measures you can take to make sure your house is attractive from the outside. For instance, focus on your landscaping and lawn quality. Consider adding subtle touches in terms of decorations as well.

Once you’ve got the exterior covered, it’s a good idea to focus on the bathrooms and kitchen. You’ll be pleased to learn that both types of redesign deliver attractive returns on investment — both north of 50 percent on average!

Spacious

Unsurprisingly, adding square footage has the knock-on effect of adding value to your home. Price per square foot is a constant, so you don’t have to worry about whether the return on your investment will be substantial, assuming the square footage you’ve added adds aesthetic and functional value to some extent.

Even if an appraiser or realtor fails to formally acknowledge the positive difference in square footage that your home offers, most people can intuitively feel the contrast between a smaller and larger home. Of course, you can blow out a wall and add significant square footage to a kitchen (or add a new room altogether), but don’t forget about alternatives like building a deck, patio, or even finishing the basement.

Tech-Friendly

If adding square footage was a touch obvious, here’s an idea you may not have considered — adding tech-friendly gadgets and features to your home is a great way to differentiate your home from others in its class. The great thing here is that it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to add safety-enhancing smart devices such as security cameras, fire detectors, thermostats, door locks, lighting systems, or carbon monoxide detectors. What’s more, you should be able to install a few of these items yourself, or at the very least pay someone to do it for an affordable fee.

Part Two Is On The Way!
